Lamont Loyd-Sims

Executive Director and Spoken Word Artist

Lamont Loyd-Sims joins DoH as we make major shifts in response to this current ecological crisis, and continue supporting young artists who experience gender and sexual difference. Before joining DoH, Lamont worked as a college lecturer and fundraising specialist, and organized with Students Against State Violence in Indiana.

Lamont is a queer black healer-poet, scholar-activist, and emerging dance/movement arts therapist from Atlanta/occupied Cherokee and Creek land, and born in Los Angeles/occupied Tongva land, with familial roots in Louisiana/occupied Natchez land and Mississippi/occupied Choctaw land.

They currently live in the South Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh/occupied Osage land. They are of the belief that all activists are also creatives, and all artists create radical possibilities. Lamont co-facilitates high (with the use of cannabis) guided meditation, deep breathing exercises grounded in healing justice practice with activists who need support with managing stress and exhaustion caused by generations of social harm. In her spare time, she enjoys learning about the cultural lineages of J-setting and majorette dance among Black gay and femme people. He is currently engaged in advocacy work on endowment accountability to community arts, and supports cooperative living and work.

Lamont received an M.A. degree in women's, gender, and sexuality studies, with a focus on social movements and dance performance studies from Georgia State University.
