Judith Avers has enjoyed working with youth for years. Since 2005, she has tutored and mentored teens in West Virginia at High Rocks Academy, a year-round academic and life skills organization. She continues her work there through Song Schools (a creation of Judith’s where she teaches groups of students to write and perform their own songs), camps, college trips, and event planning. The teens who work with her have lovingly dubbed her “Momma J.”
Her background is eclectic; she is a well-established singer-songwriter, and has received several national awards for her music. She also writes custom songs through her Songs In Sixty project. She is a plant-lover, and in her spare time plays in her yard and works part-time at Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh . She is an informal counselor to friends and family, and is a proud member of the LGBTQ community. She and her wife have been together for nearly ten years, and live in Pittsburgh with their three cats.
She is very excited to be working with the team of bright minds who created and keep Dreams of Hope alive!
